another vibraphonette from across the pond

i got an email a few weeks ago from another galanti vibraphonette owner. his name is will and he lives across the pond in holland. his vibraphonette looks like it is in great shape. it has an extra half octave (on the low end to make 2 1/2 octaves). the bars look much more like regular vibraphone bars, whereas mine are much thinner. it also looks like it has an extra leg to carry the extra weight. i didn't ask him if he transports it very much or how much is weighs, but i'm guessing it weighs closer to 60lbs if mine is about 45lbs.

he also mentioned that he has an early 60's galanti guitar!

  • Will's vibraphonette is truly a beautiful instrument. The bars do appear much heftier than those on dennis' instrument (and so shiny). Are they both wider and thicker? I would love to hear it played. Judging by the girth of the bars and the vibraphonette's extended range I suspect that d's estimation of the instrument's weight is a bit low. My guess is 700 to 800 pounds (or kilos, ballpark).

    i have a vibraphonette as well. i found it at a garage sale in terrace(northern bc) canada. i did not know what is was but i had seen lionel hampton play and thought this might be a similar instrument. i use mine for tonal healing in league with reiki and crystals. it has a beautiful voice. i feel honored to have it. arlene sheppard

    I have the same vibrafonette as
    Will has on the photo. During the seventies I used the instrument playing in a gospelgroup. Now it is standing in my garage, maybe waiting for another lover.
    I want to sell my vibrafonette, but who will play such an instrument in this computer-age?

    I just found your blog as I was browsing through the net for images of the Vibraphonette. The thing is that I just found a classified ad for what I believe is a Vibraphonette. The price? Approx. $65! I'll call the owner in the morning and hopefully it hasn't been sold yet.

    I was just browsing looking for a few parts for a Galanti Vibraphonette I have owned for the past over sixty years and suddenly I so how many people where there looking for one of this instrument, and was also surprised about the high price some people are asking for. Anyway, I hope you ended finding one, I know it has been many years since all that information had been posted on that particular blog, but never the less, I just wanted to express my surprised about how many people were looking for one.

    I’m original from Valencia (Spain) but I have been in Montreal (Canada) for the past 57 years. I played piano accordion professionally till age forty, I’m 83 today and retired of course for the past many years. Where you a musician as well ?.
