Great (but expensive) Vibraphonette For Sale in U.S.

There is a great looking 2 octave vibraphonette for sale on ebay that could be yours... for $1999. I had to rub my eyes to make sure I saw the right price! This vibraphonette is in great shape - it even has a branded cover for the bars! The original handle is included and the casing looks pretty clean. It will need new belts but they tested the motor and it works. Unfortunately for our international readers it is for sale in the U.S. only.

If there ever were a 2 octave vibraphonette worth $2k this one might be it. They are taking offers, but if you 'buy-it-now' then the shipping is free. Check out the eBay listing.

  • Yeah I just bought this one! I've been waiting too long to let this one pass me buy even though i really wanted the 2.5 octave. I Sent Gilberto from century mallet an email about where to get the belt. Not sure if it's more than one needed. It's coming this week! Where else can I buy these belts? Are these O-rings found at hardware shops?

  • I was able to get it for $1500 and it was in good shape minus the usual things that age and wear on vibes this old. In need were the belts (3), grommets(64 and cracking), and the felts (1/4" thick by 1/2 wide blue felt which are ok but will eventually need to be replaced. I was able to get some parts from Gilberto at Century Mallet but not many in fact just the grommets worked.
I've used hair scrunchies for all 3 belt rings and that's holding up. Looking into Madonna Bracelets! The diameters are around 2-3" and what Gilberto had wast taut.
I just ordered some felt stripping from Granger. Self adhesive at the size needed in 3 different levels of hardness. They're gray which sucks but we'll see and I'll post here for people in need if they work.
The bars are not in pristine condition as the photos showed and might need to be re tuned and cleaned by Century Mallet. They sound fine but it couldn't hurt if the price is fair (I've owned 5 vibe sets new and old). I wanted to get it to a good state then see how much he charges to do this for these thinner bars with rivets. I wanted to get the 2.5 octave eventually if ANYONE has one let me know. I wanted to get this one cleaned and in perfect shape before I consider selling it.
One last thing. Pedal is in really nice shape but the screw nut that goes into the galanti frame underneath and holds the 2 posts in place doesn't screw all the way in. There is a 1/2" space so I put a pencil in between the crossbar and it's fine. I intend to look into it further after I open it up and clean and replace things. Any suggestions welcome.

  • Yes, Shannon is the man. We've done business before and he's very helpful and insightful. He's looking into seeing if the 2.5 bars work on the 2 octave since I was curious in them either for my 2 octave or for any other Galanti's I might come into contact with. He's getting them back from Century Mallet and will let me know. He also pointed me to Gilberto which I've also bought vibe sets from. Both are invaluable in the field and the go to guys.
